How to Access and Use SPSS with Amos Student Version

As an 'amos student version' student at the University, you can access a range of online training modules for SPSS through LinkedIn Learning (available free to staff). To sign in, use your student email. If you're using University-owed devices, please contact a staff member from your department to complete the online Software Order Form on your behalf.

If you want to install SPSS on your own device, you'll need to complete the online Student Software Request form. Similarly, staff who wish to use SPSS on their home computer must complete a Work at Home Application form (.pdf, 54KB) and email it to Students.

The licence period for SPSS is from 1 January to 31 December. An annual licence for SPSS software is available through ITSS, but under no circumstances can staff and students use the software commercially. A separate SPSS licence must be requested to install the software on a personally-owned computer.

Staff and students can use SPSS on their personally-owned computers for University work only or on University-owed computers. Please visit the SPSS website for system requirements.

What is Amos?

Amos is a statistical software package that includes AnswerTree, DataEntry Builder, and other tools. It's available at no additional charge to faculty, staff, and students at all UT campuses for installation on university-owned and personally-owed Windows PCs.

How Can I Get Support?

OIT offers full support for Amos, including a tutorial provided as part of the Amos Help files. You can schedule a one-on-one tutorial any time by calling the OIT HelpDesk at 86.

There is no simultaneous user limit for Amos. Additionally, Amos is available on OIT's server and the computers in the OIT public computer labs. The download and installation instructions are available on the OIT software download page.

What Can I Use It For?

Enrolled students, faculty, and staff can use Amos for university-related teaching and academic research purposes. These models are also known as LISREL models, confirmatory factor analysis, analysis of covariance structures, path analysis, or causal modeling.
